KDC held our annual meeting on April 22, 2014 where we were fortunate to welcome three new board members:Patricia Hilton a retired Agricultural Education teacher,Marc BrownGold the General Manager of a food cooperative and Gordon B Hoover, a Land O’Lakes representative. Let us introduce you.

Patricia Hilton is a retired Agricultural and Science teacher after thirty years at Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ. She also was the FFA Advisor for 20 years. In 1997, she purchased a Preserved Farm in Hunterdon County with another local farmer, which she calls “Heaven on Earth.” She resides on the 326 acres with horses, chickens, beef and dairy heifers. Pat bales approximately 40 acres of hay. She is currently a board member of the New Jersey Ag Land Trust and served on the Board of Trustees at Delaware Valley College for thirty years. She is KDC’s first Board member residing in New Jersey.

Marc BrownGold has been in the food business for 40 years and currently is the General Manager of the Swarthmore Food Co-op in Delaware County. Marc is passionate about food-related issues, sustainability, and the farmers and producers who partner with the Co-op to make it a great little store. He currently serves on the board of the Cooperative Grocers Network, a national organization that serves all food co-ops, featuring a listserv that encourages communication among food co-ops. Marc also serves on the board of GMO Free PA, and Swarthmore Town Center. Marc was interviewed in our October 2013 newsletter if you want to read more about him.

Gordon B. Hoover is Director of Member Relations at Land O'Lakes and owner of Welsh-Vista farms in Gap, PA. Gordon has been an industry leader by serving on the Board of Directors of Atlantic Dairy Cooperative that merged into Land O'Lakes Cooperative. Gordon continued to serve on the Land O'Lakes Board of Directors until 2007. He represented Land O'Lakes on the National Milk Producers Federation Board of Directors from 2000 to 2007. Gordon is engaged in many state and regional dairy and ag. organizations including PA Center for Dairy Excellence, Professional Dairy Managers of PA, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Promotion, and Farm Bureau. Gordon also serves as Salisbury Township Supervisor in Lancaster County, PA.

KDC’s Board sadly said goodbye to two Board members finishing their terms. Larry Yager, who was involved in the formation of Keystone Development Center (KDC), which officially organized in 1998, and has served in various roles over the years is stepping down after serving three consecutive three-year terms. The past several years Larry has been the Board Treasurer. He plans to continue to volunteer time on various projects so we will not be saying a permanent goodbye. To learn more about Larry, read our interview with him in our October 2012 newsletter. Also leaving is our past-president Jim Barnett, who is retired from Land O’Lakes Cooperative. Jim joined the KDC Board of Directors in 2007 and served as Vice-President and most recently, President. We thank both of them for their service and will miss them. Stepping into their offices are Hannah Smith-Brubaker as President (read more about her in this issue) and Duane Kanagy as KDC’s new Treasurer.
